Garage door opener repair
Openers fail in a small number of predictable ways, and telling them apart is most of the job. Dead, humming, and running-without-moving are three different repairs at three different prices.
Typical cost
$155 – $410
gear kit, logic board or full motor

First: is it the opener or the door?
Pull the emergency release and lift the door by hand. If it is heavy, sticks, or will not move, the opener is not your problem — the spring is, and the opener is only the symptom. Replacing it would fix nothing and cost a lot.
If the door glides easily by hand, the fault really is in the opener.
The three failures we actually see
Hums but does not move the door. Almost always a stripped plastic drive gear. Cheap part, straightforward repair, and it does not mean you need a new unit.
Completely dead. Usually power — a tripped GFCI, a failed capacitor, or a burned-out motor. A meter separates those in two minutes.
Runs its full travel with the door still shut. The trolley has disconnected from the rail, often because someone pulled the emergency release years ago and it never re-engaged.
The one case where we say replace
An opener made before 1993 has no photo-eye sensors. It predates the federal safety requirement and there is no retrofit that brings it up to standard. Given how much of Coral Springs was built before then, we still find them, and that one we recommend replacing without hesitation.
Questions about opener repair
Which brands do you work on?
LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Craftsman, Sommer, Linear, Wayne Dalton and Raynor among others. Parts for the common brands ride on the truck.
Wall button works, remote does not.
Then the door and the motor are both fine. It is the remote, its battery, or the opener's receiver board — our cheapest call, and often we can talk you through it on the phone.
Repair or replace an old opener?
Repair, unless the motor itself has failed or the unit predates 1993. A gear kit or a board costs a fraction of a new opener and buys years.
